A fast-moving hailstorm rolled off the Front Range on June 8, 2026, pelting the Evergreen area with golf-ball-size hail (1.75") and dropping hail across Golden, Kittredge, Lakewood, and Wheat Ridge. Colorado leads the nation in hail damage, and stones this size crack shingles, dent metal, and split siding — often leaving damage you can't see from the ground.

On the afternoon of June 8, 2026, severe thunderstorms rolled off the Front Range and swept across Jefferson County and the west Denver metro. The National Weather Service in Boulder logged golf-ball hail (1.75") in the Evergreen area — reported at Wah Keeney Park, about two miles from town — and again in Golden, with quarter-size hail (1.00") blanketing Kittredge, Lakewood, and Wheat Ridge.
Colorado leads the nation in hail-damage claims, and the foothills sit right in the firing line. Hail an inch or larger cracks shingles and dents metal; golf-ball stones do real damage — bruising the shingle mat, knocking off the protective granule surface, denting gutters and flashing, and cracking or holing siding (standard vinyl is especially vulnerable). A 76 mph wind gust was clocked in the south metro the same afternoon.
June 8 was the second significant hail day in barely a week. On June 1, golf-ball hail rolled across the west metro from Denver to Edgewater, so a lot of Jefferson County roofs absorbed back-to-back hits. Damage from hail this size often isn't visible from the ground — and in Colorado you typically have only about a year from the date of the storm to file a hail claim, so it pays to have a roof looked at sooner rather than later.
